Social Entrepreneurship Course

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

• Examine the concepts underpinning social entrepreneurship to gain a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities
• Investigate the best practices, successes and failures, of social entrepreneurship.
• Critically assess the range of strategic and operational issues faced by those who create and manage social enterprises.
• Investigate and evaluate the role, requirements and challenges facing a “corporate social entrepreneur”.
• Create and/or revise a business model for a social enterprise.

• Legal issues facing the social entrepreneur
• Management and governance structures for the successful social enterprise
• Performance measurement requirements
• Financing and capital structure (including unique options such as community bonds, social loan funds, and social venture exchange)
• Leadership qualities for, and requirements of, the social entrepreneur
• Assessing and communicating social impact
• Scaling social innovation
• The role/requirements and challenges facing the "corporate social entrepreneur"

TRAINING METHODOLOGY

The training methodology combines lectures, discussions, group exercises and illustrations. Participants will gain both theoretical and practical knowledge of the topics. The emphasis is on the practical application of the topics and as a result participant will go back to the workplace with both the ability and the confidence to apply the techniques learned to their duties.
