This training will introduce participant to why social workers need to know the law; how laws are made and classified; natural law and positivist law and their intersection with ethics and philosophy; the sources and context of English law; and the 'legal framework' of English social work including legislation, quasi-legislation and social policy.

  • Acquire and evaluate knowledge and understanding of values and social ethics as they relate to the law.

  • Effective skills required to analyse information gathered for legal problem solving purposes.
  • Role and impact of public law and policy on the rights of groups likely to come into contact with social work services.
  • Legislation as it relates to social work activities, duties and decisions

 

TRAINING METHODOLOGY

The training methodology combines lectures, discussions, group exercises and illustrations. Participants will gain both theoretical and practical knowledge of the topics. The emphasis is on the practical application of the topics and as a result participant will go back to the workplace with both the ability and the confidence to apply the techniques learned to their duties.
