Aviation Safety Management

A safety management system in aviation commonly refers to a set of processes and tools to formally manage a structured safety program. Safety management in aviation is not a new, 21st-century topic. Even before man started flying, there were safety management programs in other industries.

At the end of this training, you will be able to:

• Describe the fundamental concepts behind Safety Management Systems (SMS), as defined by ICAO, UK CAA, CASA and Transport Canada
• Select and implement techniques for the identification, quantification and management of hazards and risks
• Critically assess strategies for developing and enhancing safety culture including the role of leadership, structure and reporting systems
• Identify techniques for measuring safety performance

• Guidance on audits and safety promotion.

• Guidance on effective management of safety teams

TRAINING METHODOLOGY

The training methodology combines lectures, discussions, group exercises and illustrations. Participants will gain both theoretical and practical knowledge of the topics. The emphasis is on the practical application of the topics and as a result participant will go back to the workplace with both the ability and the confidence to apply the techniques learned to their duties.
